Granny Swap, Anyone?

Here's what's happening in my world at the moment:
  • Christmas Gifts - always top of the list at this time of year. There are only 124 days until Christmas folks!
  • Hats for the homeless shelter/Cancer center - this is an on-going project for me. When I have a spare day (those are few and far between here recently) I try to make a hat or a scarf to donate. I actually have several hats waiting for transportation to the Cancer Center as I type.
  • Granny Square Swap - and now we get to the subject of the day! I think I've fallen in love with this swap thing . . .

Candy Lifshes from +Meladora's Creations for Crochet has a Facebook page that spawned an idea that has taken on a life of it's own. One little mention of a Granny Square Swap and it was like a bunch of cats after a ball of yarn! Hookers from all over the place are jumping on this project. Canada, Wisconsin, United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, Indiana, West Virginia . . . you name it and there's probably someone sending and receiving squares as I type this post.

Did I get in on the goodies? You bet your favorite hook I did! I've sent out 4 squares so far with many more in the making. I have a package ready to mail to Essex, UK, right this minute. It's just waiting for the other beauties to get finished so I can do a batch mailing. I hate going to the post office, so I want to send a bunch at one time.

I've received 2 squares so far. I couldn't believe how excited I got when I saw those two plain brown envelopes! I was giddy, like a kid at Christmas. I've decided I'm going to photo journal all the squares I get, that way I won't forget where they each came from and who sent them. And you know what I'm going to make with them? I'm gonna try for a sweater/jacket of some kind. If not then I suppose I'll go for the traditional afghan. But how cool would it be to wear a piece of art from someone half-way across the world? Or from my own state even!?!

I encourage you to get in on the fun and look up the page Granny Square Swap around the World. It's an event posted from the group Crochet 4 the Masses. I'm enjoying every minute of it!

Now if you don't mind, I have a few dozen square to make so I'm gonna leave you pics of the two squares I received thus far.

Peace and Blessings,
~~Karen~~
