My #1 Tip for Using Elastic on a Headband/Ear Warmer

Image
Cold weather is fast approaching here in my neck of the woods and while the days are still hitting the 70's and 80's, the nights are dipping down into the 50's. Break out the sweatshirts and ear warmers. Grab a scarf and some gloves for the football game and don't forget the thermos of hot chocolate and that cozy crochet afghan! Autumn is almost here. I made a few of these headband/ear warmers last year and I've already had orders for more this season. This is one I made to try out a covering for the elastic hairband used in the back. I like using the elastic hairbands in this sort of project because it allows the finished piece to be worn by more people. Sometimes it can be hard to fit the head of a person you've never met and this little addition allows for greater flexibility with the finished piece. I came across this video for a headband while I was looking for, you guessed it, a headband pattern. My beautiful daughter, Maeghan, modeling one of the headbands. It's from Donna at Naztazia.com  and I love it! The pattern is easy to remember and it's pretty easy to follow along with the video. One note; she crochet's fast so you may need to pause it in order to catch up. There are also written instructions if you'd like to follow those instead. She goes over how to make the increases you might need for making a larger headband than what she makes in the video; they're simple and easy to remember. Her instructions are clear and concise the entire time even going so far as to put instructions up on the screen for you to read as well as watch. She has a BUNCH of free videos for you to follow along and/or grab the written instructions. I encourage you to browse and see what you can find that strikes your fancy. (I have my eyes on this one ) I do ...

Kitty Ears Headband

Image
During the Christmas season we had an Angel from the Angel Tree that wanted "Anything Hello Kitty". I immediately thought, "I can finally make that hat!" And that's exactly what I did. But during the creative process I made a pair of Kitty ears that were way too big for a 6 y/o girl's hat, so in the drawer they went. And they sat there until Tuesday of this week when my daughter reminded me that I was supposed to do something with them. Well, do something with them I did! As you can see, with my beautiful daughter as a model, I made a headband with Kitty ears! It's a really simple pattern and it uses an inexpensive plastic headband that can be bought almost anywhere.  Kitty Ears Headband Materials : Worsted Weight y arn , I used Red Heart Super Saver in white and p ink Pink Rustica Eclat Cotton Thread ( 93% Mercerized Cotton & 7% Metallic Filament) plastic headband ( picture below) size H crochet hook scissors embroidery ...
