Step-by-Step Guide: Making a Spring Flower Newborn Cocoon Photo Prop

Image
This pattern is now available as a FREE Ravelry download!  Click >>HERE<< to get your free PDF copy! One of my friends is about to have a baby, seriously, just any day now. She's having a girl and she asked me to make her a baby cocoon that looks like a flower. She sent a picture of one that to me, looked like it had been made on a Knifty Knitter loom or something similar. Now I've got several sizes of those looms floating around in my closet but heaven knows I'm too afraid to venture into it! That's an all day job is what that is. So, I crocheted her one. I wanted to share the pattern with you guys so that's what today's post is about. Let's get to it. Spring Flower Newborn Cocoon by Karen Vaughn Materials: Bernat Softee Baby Yarn Loops and Threads Snuggly Wuggly Yarn Size I/9 - 5.5MM crochet hook yarn needle for weaving in the ends scissors tape measure Stitches/Terms Used: (American Terminology) ...

Mouse Inspired!

Now that I'm back home from an extended stay in Florida (I miss the warmth!) I wanted to share one of the things I made while I was away. I have a friend that's attending a baby shower and she wanted an out-of-the-box gift and asked me to make her something special. This is what I came up with. Now you can find patterns (for free and paid) that offer instructions on how to make an outfit like this one, however, I used a combination of a couple different patterns.  For the white diaper cover: I used Worlds BEST Diaper Cover  by Boomer Beanies , available on Ravelry. This pattern has a charge of $4.99 USD. It is, in my opinion, the BEST diaper cover I've ever used. The tail is of my own making and is simply a chain of 35; SC in second chain from hook and slip stitch the remaining chains. It's tied onto the back, 11th row from the top. For the red skirt: I used a pattern I found on Ravelry (for free) but I made more rows than the pattern calls for. It'...

Newborn Baby Beanie with Pattern

Image
I promised this last Friday, and then made myself a liar. Rather, the hospital made me a liar. Happy Valentine's Day, but in lieu of recent events detailed at my blog  Kat Knap , I have decided to present you with the pattern for my basic newborn beanie instead of a Valentine's Day oriented pattern. I realize that this pattern is simple, but there are a couple of reasons I'm choosing to give this to you as opposed to something a bit more extravagant. One, I have a newborn, so I know  that this size will fit him, and he is about the "average" newborn size. The circumference of his head at the time I tested this pattern was 13" if you would like to use that as a reference. It fit him well, and with a small margin for growth. Second, this is quick and easy. It would even make a great starter project for anyone who is just learning crochet. Lastly, you can take this pattern and turn it into WHATEVER YOU WANT. Innovation - also covered on my most recent blog post...
