Making It Up As You Go-Go

So this week has been full of excitement! As some of you know, I'm going to be adding the title "Nana" to my repertoire sometime in late January or early February. I also have found out that someone else very close to me is, as I type, about 5.5 weeks along. Plus, a friend at church delivered a couple weeks early and had a beautiful 4 pound baby girl. (I'm happy to report that both mom and daughter are doing exceptionally well) And I can think of two other women that are due within the next few months . . . Babies everywhere! There are very few things that excite me as much as babies can. What a joyous blessing for a family! And who doesn't smile when they see a new baby with his head wobbling back and forth trying to look at whatever it is that babies see.

So with babies on the brain I had someone message me on Facebook and ask if I could make a pair of booties for a friend of hers. I've seen these booties before and do what most women do when they see something adorable; I 'oh'd' and 'ah'd' at the picture but had never been able to find a pattern. This pair of booties became my new obsession this week as I delved into the recesses of virtual storage and finally found them. (Previously, I'd only find another picture or a pair for sale on Etsy for $40) THIS time, I found a video! I was so excited!

(I did not make this pair of booties)

I bookmarked the site, bought the yarn and accessories, then sat down to follow along. Guess what? The stinking video was in Portuguese! *insert Gibbs-slap here* I felt like screaming or pounding my head on a brick wall. I had spent two days just finding the video and now, or so I thought, I was going to have to find someone that speaks Portuguese. I'm like Bruce Willis in The Fifth Element; I speak English and bad English. I felt deflated.

BUT (there's always a but) I watched the video anyway and was still able to make the booties! My wailing had turned into dancing. Ahh, I was, and still am, relieved. I'm not 100% finished with them because the accents (rose and leaf) were not covered in the video, so I'm making it up as I go by piecing together different patterns and resizing them to fit this tiny 3" shoe. I pray she likes them as much as I do. I can see more of these precious things in my future crochet WiP pile.

The pictures below are the booties I'm currently working on and hope to have finished by tonight for a delivery this weekend to the customer. I plan on writing the pattern up and posting it (with credit to the inspirational source, of course). I hope they bring a smile to your face on this beautiful Autumn day.

Peace and blessing to all of you,
~~Karen~~

The sole; I adapted the video version to match this newborn shoe.

My sole on the left and the video version on the right.
I think mine looks more like a real foot =D

Size matching as I work on the bottom.

Another pic of size matching. I think I got it.

Bootie in progress.
Still need the leaves and the ribbon; then I'm done!
