Product Review: Crafter's Comfort Gloves by Dritz® Quilting
That's hat #18 I'm working on, just in case you were curious about how I was doing in my 365 Hats for the Cancer Center. |
Hello everyone! I have something different for you today; a review of a product that I received as a Christmas gift. Crafter's Comfort Gloves by Dritz®Quilting.
Now let me start by saying that this is my own personal opinion on this product and I am not in any way compensated for blogging about it.
The product says it provides these "Key Benefits":
Back of the box. |
- Provides mild compression for warmth, support and to control swelling
- Open finger tips allow freedom to feel and grip
- Soft Cotton/Spandex allows skin to breathe and keeps hands dry
- Comfortable enough to wear all day and all night
- Available in Small and Medium
I thought I'd address each "benefit" and give you my honest opinion. It's probably a good idea to let you know something about me. I've been know to be brutally honest in my reviews of certain products. For example; Store brand tampons verses Name brand tampons. For the love of God and the health of your immediate family - do not try store brand tampons. Again, my personal opinion but my experience left me with a love for Kotex I never dreamed of.
My thoughts:
- The very first thing that strikes me? If you're a big crafter, you're outta luck. This brand only makes gloves for those that are "Small and Medium". So if you're a man, with big man-hands, you're going to have to look somewhere else for comfort while you craft. And if you're a big woman, sorry, but you're in the same boat with the guy that has man-hands. Decide now which one of you is rowing. C'mon Dtriz®, get with the program and make a LARGE size.
- The claim that they are "comfortable enough to wear all day and all night" is something up for grabs. I've worn these gloves several times and I've never wanted to sleep in them but someone that has more severe issues with swelling and pain may disagree. They are soft and not too imposing when you're working with them on. I will say that I didn't care too much for all the seams. Yuck, I hate seams! If my socks have seams I wear them inside out; same with my undies. If the manufacturer could find a way to make them without seams I might be interested in sleeping with them. Not sure what the hubby would have to say about that.
- The Cotton/Spandex combination is very nice. There is NO Latex in this product so if you're allergic to Latex or have issues with it, this would be safe for you. My hands don't usually tend to sweat but if they did the cotton would help to absorb any extra moisture and keep my hands dry. And on that same train of thought, the gloves didn't make my hands sweat at all.
- The "open finger tips". I have mixed feelings about this aspect. I liked the fact that I could handle my hook and yarn with ease but at the same time, my finger tips were so cold! Maybe it was because the rest of my hand was warm that I noticed the temperature change so severely, I don't know. But I do know that my hand (the part covered by the glove) was warm but not the finger tips. There's the issue: do you go for control of your project or warmth for your finger tips?
- Now for the first benefit they listed; "warmth, support and to control swelling". Let me start by saying that my issue is Carpal Tunnel. Why do I have it? Who knows. Maybe it's congenital, maybe it's hypothyroidism, maybe, maybe, maybe, which means they really have no idea. This product in no way claims to fix Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. But maybe it can help relieve some of the symptoms. Yes, it kept my hands warmer than they usually are (with the exception of my finger tips). Yes, I felt the extra support that the Spandex provided. (Sorta like Spanx for your hands.) As for the "control swelling" part, well, I'm not too sure about it. I have arthritis in my hands and my knuckles do swell from time to time. I didn't really see a difference in the swelling of my knuckles. But I can see where it might be beneficial for someone that has generalized swelling in their hands and fingers.
S E A M S from Hell. It's much better inside out! |
Overall, I like them. I do have some issues with cold finger tips and the huge seams but I think I can work around that. (Wear them inside out?) If I were grading the product like I used to get graded in school I'd have to say they rank a B- or a C+. It's really going to depend on how irritating the seams are to me on any particular day plus whether or not I have the front room warm enough to compensate for the open finger tips.
I'm interested in your thoughts on these gloves, if you've used them or another brand. Let me know, in the comments on this post, what you think.
Peace and blessings,
~~Karen~~
