Eggs-traordinary Bunny with Pattern

Spring is definitely here and Easter is right around the corner. I couldn't decide what I wanted to make for this season until I was at church last Sunday. I was crocheting and out popped an egg . . . from my crochet hook. I added ears and a fluffy tail, lo' and behold, Egg Bunny was born.

Here's the pattern. Enjoy.

Materials:

  • Worsted Weight yarn in your choice of colors
  • size G/6 - 4.25MM crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors
  • Stitch Markers (optional)
Stitches used: (American Terminology)

  • Magic Circle
  • Slip Stitch (sl st)
  • Chain (ch)
  • Half Double Crochet (hdc)
  • Half Double Crochet 2 Together (HDC2Tog)
Notes:

  • Chain 1 at the beginning of a Row does not count as a working stitch.
  • You can use an alternative method of starting if you aren't comfortable with the Magic Circle technique. [Ch 6, join to form a loop, work beginning stitches into the loop]

Egg:
Row 1: Magic circle, ch 1 to secure, 8 hdc into circle. Pull tail snug to secure. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 2: 1 hdc in each stitch around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 3: *1 hdc in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 4: *1 hdc in first stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 5: *1 hdc in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Rows 6-10: 1 hdc in each stitch around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.

Stuff with Fiberfill, continue to stuff as work progresses taking care not to over-stuff.

Row 11: *1 hdc in next 2 stitches, HDC2Tog. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 12: *1 hdc in next stitch, HDC2Tog. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first hdc with sl st, ch 1.
Row 13: HDC2Tog, skip 1 stitch, HDC2Tog. Leaving a long tail, cut yarn and tie off. Use long tail to sew the opening closed.

Tail:
Make a Pom Pom by using a pom pom making tool or your preferred method. Leave a long tail for sewing to the Egg body. Trim to a fluffy puff. Tie to back side of Egg.

Ears: (Make 2)
Chain 6.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and across. Ch 1 and turn.
Rows 2 - 3: Sc in each stitch across. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 4: SC2Tog, sc in next 3 stitches. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 5: SC2Tog, sc in next stitch. Ch 1.

SC along the outer edge of the ear to smooth out rough edges. Continue across the bottom and the other side. Join to first sc with a sl st. Tie off and weave in ends.

Attach the ears along the back of the Egg body along Row 3 or 4.

Multiply those Bunnies and make enough for all the little peeps in your family!

Peace and blessings,
~~Karen~~
