Crochet as Art

A couple weeks ago I linked some of my favorite patterns for the floor of your home. Now, I want to share a few things that you can do to turn your crochet into art!

(Pattern/tutorial links are shared with the image.)

1. Take most any doily pattern and put the finished product into a frame. Voila! You have a beautiful piece of art to showcase your work (or the work of a vintage crocheter). Hang it in a prominent location for an instant conversation starter!

2. You can use your crochet in a nursery as art by making the baby's name out of a simple chain! In this image there's also a crochet bird hanging out back there. You could take this to the next level by making an entire wall of crochet art by using animals, birds, flowers, cars, trucks, planes, boats, trains, dinosaurs . . . and that list goes on and on!

3. Need something for the bedroom? How about a crochet dream catcher? This one is beautiful and has a tutorial to go along with it.

4. Along the same lines as the doily and the dream catcher is the crochet mandala. The vital difference being color scheme and yarn size. Most doily's are made with crochet thread and dream catchers can be made with any size, the mandala is usually made with a 4-ply worsted weight yarn and is done in an array of colors. This beautiful piece has a tutorial to go along with it.

5. Now let's talk out of the box crochet art. There are people that make body parts, amigurumi, clothing, character hats, backpacks, etc. I personally consider all of this to be art. We're not without talent, fellow crocheters, not at all. But this next image can be an inspiration to all of us.

She describes her art as "crochetdermy". And the animals get to keep on living! Bravo, Shauna Richardson, bravo.

I'd love to see some of your crochet art! Feel free to share links to your pages in the comments below!

Peace and blessings,
