Let Your Little Light Shine Glass Jar Cozy Pattern

Image
This is such a cool thing to make! Someone posted a pic of several jars they had covered in one of the Facebook groups I follow. Naturally I had to try it and this is what I made. This is a smaller jar than a regular Mason jar. This is a pickled beet jar. I save a lot of jars =D. This is just showing what it can  be used for; toothbrushes, pens and pencils, notions and crochet hooks (of course). And look what happens when you use a tea light inside of it! This is fabulous! You can use whatever pattern you like for the sides to make different shadow dances when the candle is lit. As long as there is a space/hole/crack of some kind - you can let your little light shine! Isn't that something! I've decided to make several for gifts this Christmas. What I'm going to do is this: cover the jar with different colored yarns and patterns, paint some lids to match, fill with candy and give a tea light candle along with it. After the candy is gone, they can ...

No Power!

Image
So we were without power AGAIN over this past weekend. Two and a half days with no electricity, no internet, no TV and no phone. My kids were going batty. They didn't have a clue what to do. Well when I was a kid (here I go with the old people stuff - lol) we didn't have anything like "internet" or 200+ channels on the TV. I had CBS, NBC, ABC and PBS. Now that's some awesome television viewing right there. And during the day, instead of playing games on the X-Box/Playstation or online we went OUTSIDE! *gasp* Cowboys and Indians, touch football, exploring the woods behind the house and stepping into a yellow-jacket nest! (That's the truth, my sister and I stepped into a nest while crawling over a fallen log - ouch!). So what did I do while listening to the kids grumble? I crocheted! (wow - that's news ^_^) Here are some pics of what I made.  This is a scrap yarn throw -  5-sided with 32  rows of double crochet  using an H hook. It's 47" ...

My First Shrug!

Image
I like keeping warm. Even in the summer months you can get cold in certain places; movie theaters, malls, church . . . even home. Now a summer scarf can keep your neck warm and cozy but your arms and shoulders are left out in the cold. A jacket or sweater might be too much, making you hot and sweaty not to mention look silly (*looks side to side as she realizes she's looked silly a few too many times*). But a shrug . . . now that's the thing for summer time chills. It covers the arms and shoulders while leaving your back and front open. Here's the one I made from yarn scraps that were around the house. (Modeled by my lovely daughter Katrina!) Yes, it does look like something from a Mexican Day of the Dead party but when you're using scraps, you get what you get. LoL! Enjoy and have a safe post-holiday weekend!
